OpenTTD 0.6.0-beta4

Grab it while it’s hot. Tonight the developers released the forth beta of OpenTTD 0.6.0. The list of features and fixes is huge and shows how much effort the developers put into this project. Great.

You can find the binaries as well as the source code at SourceForge.

This is a little excerpt of the amazing list of changes:

YAPP – Yet Another PBS Patch

Since a few days a nice patch is discussed at the tt-forums. It is another try to implement PBS in OpenTTD. The first idea of PBS is almost three years old. The old PBS was only supported by NPF (the old ‘new-pathfinder’) and since YAPF became the common standard the development was not continued.
We are currently running a dev server with YAPP (r12062M)
IP: dev.openttdcoop.org:3982
You can find the password at our irc channel: #openttdcoop.dev @ irc.oftc.net

This new patch looks really promising. The code is clean and fits to the standard openttd developers prefer. Now, lets have a look at the details. Read the rest of this entry »

Under the scope: Rivers in OpenTTD

Since r11926 OpenTTD supports rivers. Of course this is a very interesting feature which we should have a closer look at. OpenTTD doesn’t support rivers in the first place, you need Michael Blunck’s rivers.grf (in the download section). If you do not use this grf file, rivers will look like canals and the rapids will have grf glitches. You can only build rivers in the scenario editor.

OpenTTD on iPhone & iPod Touch

I didn’t believe it myself. But OpenTTD has been ported to iPhone and iPod. You might check ZodTTD’s Page for further information about the what’s and how’s. I am really curious how this works. If one could try it out, please tell us how fast it is and when it starts becoming a slideshow.

Anyway those ports must be really popular, their is a port for the Nintendo DS, too.

Have fun playing OpenTTD in trains, busses, planes or ships 🙂
I really wonder when the first player will join a coop server via iPhone ^^

Teaser – First #openttdcoop Scenario Quest/Competition

Hello Community,
after some talks and thoughts I want to present you a little teaser for a new upcoming event: The #openttdcoop Scenario Quest & Competition (osqc). I know we all like to play multiplayer games and the Public-Server is a nice place to meet, talk, play and learn. The osqc is a little bit different, it is all about your creativity and playing skills. I created a scenario with a lot of difficulties and quests to solve. The mode of this brand new idea must be developed first. I have several things in mind:
