Teaser – First #openttdcoop Scenario Quest/Competition

Hello Community,
after some talks and thoughts I want to present you a little teaser for a new upcoming event: The #openttdcoop Scenario Quest & Competition (osqc). I know we all like to play multiplayer games and the Public-Server is a nice place to meet, talk, play and learn. The osqc is a little bit different, it is all about your creativity and playing skills. I created a scenario with a lot of difficulties and quests to solve. The mode of this brand new idea must be developed first. I have several things in mind:

  • Optional play the osqc together with other persons or alone
  • Restrict the amount of time (in-game), i.e. 10-20 years.
  • Interval for new osqc games: monthly, longer or shorter?

The oscq games will take place alongside the normal games. The maps will be quite small, but tricky and shouldn’t afford too much time to play.

The competitive Factor

Well, one fact is just to solve the osqc. But I’d like to give all persons the ability to vote on the submitted solutions and we will find a winner which will become famous (with a place in a HoF) and rich. Or wait, not rich… we are poor guys. I often thought about include some advertisements here to earn some money. Shall I do that, to make the winners rich? Well we could have some cool prizes, like OpenTTD T-Cups or T-Shirts and so on. Well this is just an idea.
Anyway the competitive factor also encourages the players to show their best skills and think about the game. #openttdcoop is not only ‘building and playing together’, it is also high quality gaming at the bleeding edge of features and possibilities in OpenTTD.

The Criteria

  • Did the player solve the game-quests?
  • How did he build (Terraforming, Style, Techniques (Balancing, Prios, etc.)
  • Network flow, Jams, amount of vehicles, trains, planes, ships
  • Special factors
  • …more?

The Jury will consist of maybe 3-5 experienced players which will analyse the games. I’ll probably create a little script to rate the games. It’ll give us the chance of a unified rating, transparent for players and judges though some place for individuality.

Conclusion

I think those games will be really interesting and of course I’ll give you all the information about those games you need to play them. Anyway they are difficult. But that’s what osqc should be.
Finally a picture of the first scenario I planned. It’s not finished yet, because I have to balance some things. The Scenario is completely handmade.

IIRC the toll booth grf is a static grf. You can activate it on your own.

Of course, I need those signal towers etc. do force problems with the landscape 😉

I think this looks awesome. I think with some very original thinking coming from such a new player like me, I might be able to do this.
