MemberZone Game Halted

After a long time, some news from me.

Yesterday, we started a MemberZone game. dihedral and Thraxiam teamed up and so did Osai and I. The idea was to make a competitive game similar to good old coopetition but without a time restriction to induce a more relaxed gameplay on a relaxed saturday evening.

The game was great fun to play, overall. However, the game started to sync Osai and me out every few minutes. As we tried to continue today it has shown to desync us every few seconds, making it hard to play at all. Bugfixing is in progress – lets hope for success.

Searching for limits – 2000 trains

Some weeks ago I had a little talk on IRC about shift-mainline games and numbers of trains. Personally I really like the SML concept, and I wanted to know if it is possible to squeeze more than 2000 trains into a single game and still get a fluent network. Read the rest of this entry »

The Difference between Diagonal and Straight Tiles

Diagonal TilesI thought it is time for some more tricks and tips when playing OpenTTD. All of us use diagonal tiles when building train tracks. Of course, they are important. But you should know for sure that one diagonal tile has not the same length as a vertical/horizontal tile. This comes into play in a couple of situations.

First of all let’s have a look at the basics.

Thraxian promoted to #openttdcoop member

Happy new membership announcement: This evening (19. Nov 2007) Thraxian was bumped up a nudge to become a member of #openttdcoop – and may I add, i am glad he accepted the invitation.

I have found him to always be had for a good challenge and a bunch of fun – with a lot of sticking to plans and rules and very good at going with terrain, a very good sense for planing and coordinating games – it is a joy to simply watch him.
He also mentored new faces in the public games, explaining and showing things before he was a member, which i personally find very honorable.

Welcome on board and looking forward to some nifty mz games with you 🙂

Idea: ‘Coop’ GRF’s

Hey guys, I was just tapping my fingers and thinking about how awesome eyecandy is in OTTD, when I had an origional(ish) thought. Wouldnt it be cool if we had a couple of GRF’s made by coop for coop? I know that alot of our members make GRF’s so we should have an awesome talent base. Mabye we could start with a HQ graphic GRF. It always bores me that basically by the time we have finished our MM we already have the highest level HQ, so I was thinking we should add more, but with a coop touch. I thought it’d be awesome if we had some _huge_ skyscraper as the highest level HQ (I mean, 5 stories tall is hardly going to put a mark on the map). The coop touch: On the roof, or on a sign on the side of the building, we should have a huge label “COOP” or something like that (depending on what’ll fit >_<; ).

I’d really like to see about four or five new HQ’s added, each requiring a company value of several millions before they appear. So our HQ is upgrading constantly during our games ^__^

But yeah, I have exactly zero experience with making GRF’s but I have four months of holidays and i’d really like to contribute something to the Coop experience. If a couple of people want to join in and make a project like this, plus would be willing to teach me, I think we could pump out a couple of coop unique GRF’s, and really get our name out there 🙂

(Yes, I do know there is a Big HQ GRF, but we dont usually play with it and it is only small compared to what I’d like to see ^_^)
