Hello there,

as of today, a new chapter in our community was opened. You probably all noticed the recently added advertisement on our blog page. All out of sudden, some money started to appear in our community’s pockets. In long and exhaustive discussions, we came to the conclusion that it is a good point on which we should take this community to a new level. We concluded that it is best to form a some sort of legal entity. Our choice was to form a swiss “Verein”, according to swiss civil law articles 60ff which we are naming “#openttdcoop association“. It is possible to open bank accounts on the name of the association, enter into contracts and many other things, similar to other legal persons.

Yet Another PBS Patch or in short YAPP is a new engine of pathfinding, which enables trains to share track blocks.

In this article we wrote about this new engine before and now we are testing it on our Public Server Game 101. Right after our jubilee game a new step in the development of Open TTD. YAPP requires new building techniques as in different signalling and different station entry/ exit layouts. Join us in playing and testing this feature on the public server now!

Public Server Game #100 requires OpenTTD 0.4.5, game start was 10.06.08 and the game ended yesterday.

A little History

These days we are working on Public Server Game #100. This is a real jubilee. The idea of a Public Server was realized back in December 2005. After one year of #openttdcoop having only one Server we introduced the Public Server because there were too many players and new players. One of the first things I noticed of him was that in IRC he is one of the most smiling persons. And very helpful to noobs and newbies with big patience. Being involved in the OpenTTD dev team he started to lurk around our premises, having an eye for good and proper building and also patching ingame errors in the network – if time allows besides his quickly fixing a bug or writing another additions to OpenTTD. You may now already guess whom I’m speaking of.

So we happily and joyfully announce that we welcome SmatZ to our #openttdcoop team. A very warm welcome!

Quite some time passed since the last (and first) World wide OpenTTD game day was celebrated. As on most accounts it was a very nice and joyfull experience, we decided to make steps forward to a next experience of that kind: Up to 55 players playing on a single map in different companies with the possibility to share infrastructure for a price with other companies.
