Sandbox Server Still Offline

I have some bad news tonight,
the Sandbox Server remains still off-line as we have some technical problems with loading the newgrfs, somehow it does not work as it should. I am not sure whether this is a problem of the nightly build (r8979), the grfs or even something completely different.
We will continue our work tomorrow and I hope the Server will be back again.

But also some good news yet to come:
The new NewGrf package is packed full of awesome grf-files and the new game on the sandbox will start with JapanSet and some other stuff. All of you are invited to give it a try.
The Package includes some more files not needed for the next sandbox game, but since the newgrf handling of ottd became really smooth it is no problem at all.

Good Night Folks and please Stay Tuned

Newhouses

We got a simple request from Belugas, an OpenTTD developer, today: if we could test the newhouses branch so they know how it behaves in multiplayer. He asked us because we are a big multiplayer community.
After a quick discussion (which took hours to set up because some people were away) we decided that we will use the newhouses branch from the comming games. We don’t know if we will keep it until it gets merged or will get rid of it before that time but the new sandbox game will be a newhouses game.
It will take a while before the new sandbox game will be running as we have to make a new newgrf setup. This setup will include TTRSv3 and is lickely to stay the same as with our previous game, which means that we also have DBSetXL. I could also include a test version of the Modern Station Set which now only has one station: Berlin Hauptbahnhof. If anyone wants it included (or not) say so in your comment on this post :).

There is also a problem with this change: OpenTTD has a limit build in which prohibits it from sending the full version string to the client. This leads to the case where the client thinks that there is a version mismatch while there isnt. The only way to connect to the server now is through the command line parameters or using the console. The way to connect would become “connect 87.117.209.194:3980#1” for the console and I don’t know the command line option by heart so you will have to look that up on the OpenTTD wiki. There is currently no other way to solve this. I am talking to a developer about this at the moment though.

As a last word: I hope you guys will have fun with the much loved newhouses branch. I am sure I will have fun using it in multiplayer too after using it in singleplayer for a month or so.

The Servers are back

Just to tell you… our servers are online again.
Don’t trust the the Server Info Box on the left. Due to changes of the OTTD-Network Protocol its not possible to fetch the Server Data yet.
I’ll fix it, but not sure when.

Enjoy your games again.

Sandbox Server down for maintenance

You probably noticed our Sandbox Server to be offline. This is caused due to the incompatibility of OTTD’s new file structure and our Autopilot. We will try to fix this within the next hours.

The New Mainserver Game – Next Generation

Do you remember our Werkloze Desyncs, Inc. Game on the Mainserver, based on the Big River Scenario?
Today we started a new game, with a similar plan, but even more impressive.
I call this type of game coop_NG, because the rules expand those of the Big River Game.
Here a short overview (more Details and an exact formulation will follow soon at our Wiki)

  • very low terraforming
  • eyecandy
  • two types of network:
    1. an express network for passengers and valuable goods on the base of shinkansen tracks -> long tunnels and long signalblocks, quite straight
    2. a normal network for passengers and goods -> short tunnels, curvy, short signalblocks
  • we will have Passerngers (with SBAHN) and Cargo Trains, well balanced
  • some ships, planes, trucks, factories and so on are good for the eyecandy
  • we will have trains only, no MagLev!
  • … I probably missed something

A hope we have some good screenshots of this game soon. Because it sounds really amazing.
Stay Tuned.
