Advanced Building Revue 11: Refit Stations

Refit stations are a pretty special and separate topic which we use in the refit games. For all the past time we have of course made some development in those and they include a few features to keep in mind. This article will be similar to the overflow articles – it is meant to summarize the progress and show what refit stations are in a nutshell.

General gaming guide at day9tv

There is a channel on blip.tv based on Starcraft 2 by a person called Day9. It is someone who not only knows a damn lot about SC2 gameplay but he is an extremely clever person who thinks about things in an interesting way. And he is entertaining to listen to, at least for me.

What I want to share with you in this post is a link for his 400th daily episode. This time his daily is not completely related to SC2 but it is more of a general talk about how people think not only when playing SC2 or playing games in general. Of course it is not entirely relevant to OpenTTD in all aspects like for example making a surprise attack strategy, but many other points are very valid to consider even here.

Here is the link for the videos and below in the article I will try to show how do I think those points fit even to our environment.
Day9 daily 400

I really enjoy watching is videos despite I do not play Starcraft 2 just because he is such an entertaining person to listen to.

Advanced Building Revue 09: Self Regulating Stations

It has been quite a while since Mark introduced the SRNW and since then, we have tried quite a few self regulating stations and networks. The main point of this article is in showing the station designs that we already used in the past, and uncover the reasons why such a construction as a transfer station is so key for progress with self-regulation. And in the end of the article, we will also look how such a station is built.

Advanced Building Revue 08: Overflows II

It is quite a long time since the first article on overflows got introduced. As time passed by, I developed this topic towards the form of overflows we use now and I may mention something we haven’t used yet ;). This article is going to be about yet more overflows, this time much more advanced than the original ones. I recommend knowing the original article (ABR04) since this is just an addition to it.

Advanced Building Revue 07: Stations

Building stations is one of the most essential things in OpenTTD. To build a station doesn’t require any experience (besides knowing which button to press), although construction of a station that works perfectly requires some deeper and in under-rated amount of knowledge. The point of this article isn’t in showing all possibilities how to make a station, but it should note as many things as possible in terms of what to consider when building a station and also, talking about signalling styles which are sadly almost ignored. Here I present to you, ABR07: Stations.
