OpenTTD 0.6.2-RC1 released

Hey folks,

the development of OpenTTD seems, despite summer time, still to be on a fast track: recently the first release candidate for the next stable, 0.6.2, was released. As usual this release features an impressive lists of bugs fixed compared to the last stable release.
Just to name the moste important ones there are

  • compatibility with the new bridge set
  • some bugs with cargo handling of road vehicles
  • server crash when you ban yourself (this is my personal favorite 🙂 )
  • … many more

See the complete list in the forum thread and get the binaries from sourceforge.

If you encounter oddities or bugs, please report them at the openttd IRC channel or at flyspray.

I feel happy about the progress OpenTTD saw during the past months. Unfortunately, this goes along with the stop of the most essential projects, such as the gamebalancing branch and – even more important – the new map array. The latter was the most fundamental project, as it would allow underground-building and more. Moreover, I fail to see any projected features of interest for version 0.7 on the Roadmap-page. I do not consider a new AI to be of interest for us 😉

Mucht: are you sure about that?
It may be a bit far-fetched, but what if someone writes an AI that serves as a kind of toolbox? You could give it different commands (as they are not (yet) able to read chat, probably via signs), and it performs some kind of action for you then?
I haven’t elaborated on that idea yet, so I don’t have any good examples, but I wanted to share that idea with you…

Yeah, my thoughts about the new AI was that you can also cooperate with them. But the direction of current development goes another way. It does even “block” such ideas, newest example is: you can’t join a company which has a ai in it.

I guess, the missing roadmap is just a lack of edit rights, I am sure, else PBS would be there or the multiple engine pool.
