New Public-Server Game started

Some minutes ago I archived PublicServer Game #71 and restarted the Public-Server. The new game is quite challenging. A difficult 256×1024 map, a lot of water and high mountains with rough coasts are difficult to handle. In my opinion a perfect place for a coop company. I also loaded the NARS train-set and PikkaBirds Industries.

Enjoy the game.

Btw. if you want to request a restart write an e-mail to openttdcoop [at] ppcis.org. This makes life much easier for the administrators.

Thraxian promoted to #openttdcoop member

Happy new membership announcement: This evening (19. Nov 2007) Thraxian was bumped up a nudge to become a member of #openttdcoop – and may I add, i am glad he accepted the invitation.

I have found him to always be had for a good challenge and a bunch of fun – with a lot of sticking to plans and rules and very good at going with terrain, a very good sense for planing and coordinating games – it is a joy to simply watch him.
He also mentored new faces in the public games, explaining and showing things before he was a member, which i personally find very honorable.

Welcome on board and looking forward to some nifty mz games with you 🙂

Promoting dihedral to a Member of #openttdcoop

Short and unspectacular we are announcing dihedral as a new Member of the #openttdcoop team.
His Nickname characterises him very well. Technically a professional, Developer of lots of patches for OpenTTD of which we are some already using, especially to enhance the server-side of OpenTTD. He is also known as one of the main organisers of the wwottdgd-project. And last but not least he likes to play OpenTTD.

Welcome in our team.

Besides we are already scouting for new members, stay tuned 🙂

Resumé of the first WWOTTDGD

Yesterday the first ‘World Wide OpenTTD Game Day’ took place. In the last weeks a lot of persons (especially dihedral, Ammler, Phazorx, TrueBrain) did an immense work to prepare a really special version of OpenTTD which can cope with the needs for such a day. This custom build includes:

  • A server side patch for 55 players, but eight companies though
  • Shared Tracks and stations with the first company
  • An admin patch to move players to a company
  • Joining players always start as spectators
  • Eyecandy: snow in temperate climate
  • #openttdcoop grf package v6beta to provide variety for stations etc.
  • Changed prices (very expensive) for landscaping, tunnels and bridges
  • A lot of technical fixes, i.e. removed trees to reduce the file size of the map.
  • Toll booth GRF to show the different area’s of the map

The source and binaries are provided by the official OpenTTD-Developers. Or if you are keen with unix and svn:
svn revert -R . && svn update -r11344 && ./configure –revision=r11344-wwottdgd && ( curl http://mozart.ammler.ch/wwottdgd/patches/wwottdgd_in_v6.diff | patch -p0 ) && make

Those specs sound really auspicious and in my opinion the day was a success, worth to repeat it soon.

Terminus Station Tutorial

Osai styled Terminus Station

Due to the many request I finally created a step-by-step tutorial to show you how to build a very easy variant of my Terminus Station (The Draft for this post exists since July). The bridges over tunnels seemed to be confusing for some readers. Anyway I have to say again: ‘bridges over anything’ only work with the r7573 and higher nightly buids, not with OpenTTD 0.5.x series (Roadmap).
