YETIs have arrived!

Ladies and madmen, I am happy to announce that the project I have been working on for the last few months, has grown to it’s first release! First of all I would like to give a huge thanks to frosch who helped me greatly to get the production mechanism working, but also Alberth for trying to help me as much as possible. I would also like to thank all the people like planetmaker for answering my endless and often stupid questions about NML in general. I greatly appreciate everyone who have supported me with any feedback!

After 3 months I have managed to model 14 industries and code all of them in the last two weeks.
Creating some industries took more than the others, especially huge amount of effort was put into 3-X Machinery Factory, with all the robots being animated and the car being assembled.
While some look less simple, they often had some problem I had to overcome, but in the end it all works at least somehow. 🙂
Only the Worker Yard gets the 404 graphic for now.

Functionally:
– The Worker Yard outputs amount of YETI dudes based on current year (so it will grow no matter what), but the production can be increased by Food and Building Materials. Both of Food and Building Materials should have the same effect.
– Other industries all work simply based on Consume->Produce method, even “primaries”. This is done over time so you do not get all of the production immediately. 10% of cargo currently waiting is consumed and produced.
– I do not know in what way do industries die, find out! 😀

– There are only 15 industries, Plantation / Orchard is missing due to missing sprites And coincidentally I am somehow unable to add 16th industry… to be added later.

NUTS Unrealistic Train Set 0.7.2 Universal wagons are able to load YETIs (Workers), and will show specific sprites. Older NUTS versions also work but will show just flatbed crate graphics.

Currently the file has 30MB, and I have not yet added a single animation. Right now I just want to release this as 0.0.1, and add fancy things later (animations will probably go asap).

Sooo, enjoy it 🙂

I am trying to download YETI from Banana through Internal OpenTTD and directly from browser and it always failed.
    Details:
    YETI_Extended_Towns__Industries-0.0.9.tar (117Mb)

Error message from internal OpenTTD is:
    – unable to decompress files (maybe it is corrupted)

Downloaded directly from browser (finished at 100%) – (117Mb)
    – CRC failed in ‘tmp436rsv’. File is broken.
The CRC of downladed file is A8E3C43F

Is there something wrong with the files or any link from FTP?

    Congratulation for the release.

I would like to try YETI but failed due to an error. The error maybe related with corrupted file in Bananas.

Hi, thanks for being interested in YETI … both the bananas downloads should work. If not I would just attempt to remove the file from your openttd directory and try again…
I have a link to devzone http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/yeti/releases/ where you can find any of the releases

    Hope it works!

Thanks for the reply and the link to the bundles release pages. I am now downloading the package and will response it later. Once the download has completed, I will unpack the content to /openttd/content_download/baseset/. If the ‘manual’ download failed, i would try to download file using internal Openttd download system via bananas.

I do apology for not replying sooner. I didn’t receive any notification if the message has been replied.

I am planning to register into OpenTTD forum in future once I finsihed all of my jobs (I am Teacher). 🙂

I have downloaded the packages and there is no error at all. I wonder what cause the error when I tried downloaded the files few days ago. maybe I just have bad luck. 🙂

I do have problem when I would like to select YETI as the ‘base graphic’. It was not there. Then, I realize my mistake. YETI is not ‘base graphic’. It is ‘NEWGRF Industry’.
I was thinking YETI as base graphic due to the ’32 bit’ graphic it uses. I have used Zbase 32 bit since few months ago (probably more) and that is why I think YETI is just like another Zbase (which is wrong because YETI is NEWGRF).

I moved YETI from /Basset/ to /NewGRF/ and it work just fine. I even surprised YETI work with ECS without any problem (don’t count on me about that – it just few minutes testing). I usually only use one NewGRF Industry every time I am playing the game. I have both ECS and FIRS as my favorite NewGRF Industry. I am forget to remove ECS while testing YETI but both newGRF seems to work along very well (But I think some bugs may showed up because ECS stated it should be used without other NewGRF Industry). I am using ECS latest version (beta 2011 and not ECS in bananas/2010 version). I am downloading it from George’s personal site. I hope George could finish his work (ECS) I do understand everyone need to enjoy the life. 🙂

At 21 of February the novapolis community is organizing a yeti event. Maybe some people are interested in playing this big game?
    Just to let you know

    Hi, JB.
I would be interested to play the game but I didn’t have enough experience to play it online. I used to play OpenTTD in LAN mode with another teacher when we had free times. I would like to attach the picture about it but I see no ‘upload’ feature available in this blog. 🙂
It is too bad I just read your comment few minutes ago. If I read your post few days before the event was started, I may able ‘to look into it’. 🙂

    @V453000
I see YETI has now released with a version 1.0 and I am really happy to see it ‘grow’. The GRF is so awesome and surpasses my expectation. I even tried the latest nightly builds (V5579) and got really excited to play it. I consider myself ‘lucky’ to play Transport Tycoon with great graphics (Zbase, YETI) and lots of new features (OpenTTD). I somewhat remember how happy I am when I was playing the games at the young age.

I am using Renewed City Growth (RCG) as Game Script and it seem YETI didn’t work with RCG (it only support YETI version 5350). I hope both YETI and RCG will be compatible in future.

Please understand this comment is not a request. I am just reporting it. I know it is RCG which should modify the code to make it compatible with YETI but once again, I didn’t want to disturb both developer of YETI and RCG.
As user, I already happy with the game.

    ## Probably Off Topic ##
By the way, I don’t know why but I never had any ‘follow-up’ email even-thought I already check it. I have checked every folder in my email (using Gmail) but it wasn’t there. I hope it work at this time. 🙂
    ## end Off Topic ##

Indeed, Renewed City Growth will need to be updated if you want to play with it and YETI. From what I can see, that game script is made to handle older version of YETI that disables passengers and mail. You can contact the script author to get it updated.
