Thank you & Good bye

Dear coopers,

This thursday I will be leaving for indefinite time. It (hopefully) won’t mean goodbye forever but I take this chance to say thank you to the community.

No game has kept me interested nearly as long as OTTD has and no community I know is as friendly as #openttdcoop. I’ve been playing public server games  since september 2007 and I’ve been member since march 2008. I’ve enjoyed every single time I played games, but it wouldn’t have been nearly as good without the great bunch of people that make up #openttdcoop. I don’t get along great with everyone at times but I enjoy the company of all of you and would consider some of the long-term players as good friends.

As some of you probably know I’ve been away traveling around Australia for 2 years from which I’ve recently returned. Traveling being the addictive thing it is, I’ve decided to hit the road again. My plan this time is to go backpacking around Southeast Asia, possibly followed by a year in New Zealand, however, plans tend to change when on the road so I might end up doing something completely different.

It’s great to see the simple concept of getting together and creating clever transportation networks together going strong and still gaining popularity 6 years after it started. As I know nothing about server managing or coding my contributions have been limited, therefore I want to say thank you, especially to the members who do the actual hard work behind the scenes in their spare time getting hardly anything in return; you guys are awesome. Also I want to say thank you to all the regular players keeping the community active and growing.

I will definitely be dropping in to say hello every now and then but you probably won’t be seeing me in-game for a while, so thank you and good bye.

Sad to hear this Mark – but I hope you have great fun travelling. By any chance are you on FlyerTalk? If not, I highly suggest you sign up and start a trip report which would be interesting to read.

And you Mark can feel very proud for all the things you have contributed to this community. Perhaps not with coding, but developing building style and making more and more smart new solutions, or just great constructions, writing wiki, being always so friendly.
As I often say, the ability to be contributive is within people and cannot be forgotten – and for the past few months you spent with us you showed us exactly that. Thank you for spending your time in Dutchyland with us to play all these great games and for all the time we spent together again. Remember that you will always have your own place in our hearts and a respected post in our community because you cannot be replaced by any other.
The community builds upon the achievements that you have given to us, be it countless unique plans, whole concepts of how to play the game, or just the general enthusiastic attitude of yours.

For the time you have been away I was always looking through the logs looking if you haven’t visited us at night when I was sleeping and a few times I even got lucky enough to catch you online myself, which always made my day a lot happier.
I am just as sad to see you go as I was the two years ago but this time I am a bit more confident in knowing that you will come again at least for a chat with us.

Thanks for your stay and take care over yourself so you don’t get eaten by a group of drunk Yetis!

Sad to see you go. Although you might not have been as contributive to the back-end of the stuff you sure are (yep not were still are ;)) an important player as a member of #openttdcoop. Even when you were not here ppl looked back at things looking: How did he do that. Although i’ve gone more to the background of stuff you really helped me when I just started. Also made me learn alot about the game I do still enjoy to play.

Anyway good luck on your future trips and hope to see you from time to time 🙂

Although as with most people in the community we have had our rough patches, and not always seen eye to eye. I know that the good times have out weighed the bad, and this is why you will always be welcome here!

I hope you enjoy your trip. Try this time to come back in one piece!

Sad to see you leave again, I really enjoyed the few months that you were with us again. Toing on a trip is always a good excuse to leave us though ;). If you ever do manage to get hold of some kind of internet connection than you should come and visit us.
